The ROI of Risky Play

COK: 1 hour of Child Development and 1 hour of Curriculum

Training Description:

Risky play – no way! No way? Keeping children “safe” doesn’t mean we should eliminate all risk from their play. This workshop will explore the benefits of risky play for children and how caring adults can support risky play happening “as safe as necessary”.

Objectives:

During this workshop participants will:

1. Explain the difference between keeping children “as safe as necessary” versus “as safe as possible”.

2. Evaluate current policies and practices to allow for the inclusion of risky play opportunities.

3. Recognize the social-emotional benefits of risky play for preschool and school-age children.

Some of these workshops may be available in shorter formats.
